 1.  Upon roll call, Chairman Moon declared a quorum was present and the

      following business was transacted.

 2.  A public hearing was announced for a Conditional Use Permit request from the

Grand Avenue Church of God located on West Grand Avenue.  Pastor J. L. Knight

spoke representing the Church.  The State of Alabama has purchased some land

from the Church for the widening of Highway 77 and they are looking to re-locate.

He stated they were looking at purchasing approximately 37 acres from the estate

of Wade Bearden located on Julie Street.  The property is zoned R-1 Single Family

Residential District at this time and Pastor Knight stated the Church would like to

build a new brick sanctuary, class rooms and fellowship hall on this land.  Pastor

Knight stated they were looking to build a 420 seat auditorium.

People speaking in opposition to this request were Jim Lawley, Charles Campbell,

Luther Riddle, Durwood Campbell and Geraldine Hicks.  They all stated they were

not opposed to the Church but to it being located on Julie Street because of the

increase in traffic.  They all moved to this area or it is the home place of their

parents and they would like to keep it residential.   Since Julie Street is a dead-end

street, all traffic would travel on this road including construction trucks.

After discussion, Bryan Stone moved and Jerry Tolbert seconded the motion to not

grant the Conditional Use Permit request from the Grand Avenue Church of God.

      Motion carried unanimously.

 3.  There being no other business to come before The Planning Commission, Bryan

      Stone moved to adjourn.

 Respectfully submitted,
