STATE OF
CITY OF
The City Council of the City of Rainbow City, Alabama, met
in regular session at City Hall at 6:30 p.m., and upon roll call by the City
Clerk, Barbara T. Wester, the following members answered present: Mayor, Terry John Calhoun; Council
members: Anita Bedwell,
Bobby McCartney, Lloyd Matthews, Larry Keenum and
Kris Cornutt.
The same constituting a quorum of the City Council, the following
business was transacted.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Calhoun. Invocation was given by Bobby McCartney. Mayor Calhoun led the Pledge of Allegiance to
the flag.
1. Mayor Calhoun
presented the minutes of March 8, 2010 for review and asked if there were any
corrections, additions or deletions.
There being none, Lloyd Matthews moved and Bobby McCartney seconded the
motion to approve the minutes as presented.
Mayor Calhoun stated all in favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.
2. Mayor Calhoun
stated he asked the committee to review the bids for the changing of oil and
filters in city vehicles, and turned it over to Lloyd Matthews. Lloyd stated they reviewed the bids and
Bumble Bee Automotive has the lowest bid.
The bid is $42.50 for the change every 6,000 miles with synthetic oil
for all the vehicles. The City will have
the right to cancel at any time, and will review every six (6) months. Lloyd made a motion to adopt this bid. Bobby McCartney seconded the motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in favor say
aye. All ayes. Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.
3. Mayor Calhoun
turned over the hiring of Will Bishop to Larry Keenum. Larry stated Will Bishop started to work
March 10, 2010 at the rate of pay of $11.25 per hour, and made a motion to this
effect. Lloyd Matthews seconded the
motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in
favor say aye. All
ayes. Mayor Calhoun declared the
motion carried.
4. Mayor Calhoun
stated Ben Reed called him concerning the raising of money for the local
Patriot Flight program. Discussion
followed. Anita Bedwell
made a motion to sponsor a Tee box sign for $200.00. Bobby McCartney seconded the motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in favor say
aye. All ayes. Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.
5. Mayor Calhoun
asked that the records show that the Fire Department’s monthly report was
presented.
6. Daniel Souder, of
DBS Siding & Exterior Cleaning appeared before the Council concerning the
outside cleaning of City Hall. He stated
he will clean the vinyl siding and trim, windows, gutter, brick &/ or
stains, stucco, concrete and garage doors for a total cost of $2400.00. Lloyd Matthews made a motion for him to clean
City Hall. Larry Keenum
seconded the motion. Mayor Calhoun
stated all in favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor
Calhoun declared the motion carried.
7. Mayor Calhoun
stated the Chocolate Festival will be April 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00
p.m. There are over 44 vendors at the
present time, and over $4700.00 in prizes in the Treasure Chest. He also announced the political rally is May
10, and asked the Council to change the Council Meeting from 6:30 that day to
4:00 p.m. Lloyd Matthews made a motion
to change the Council Meeting to 4:00 p.m.
Larry Keenum seconded the motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in favor say
aye. All ayes. Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.
8. Lloyd Matthews
stated that leaves and pine straw and cuttings must be bagged in order for the
Sanitation Department to pick up. The
city is not responsible for picking up big trees.
9. Larry Murray
discussed sponsorship of the Etowah County Community Services Program. Discussion followed. Lloyd Matthews made a motion to purchase the
same ad we had last year which was a Corporate Sponsor ad in the amount of
$350.00. Kris Cornutt
seconded the motion. Mayor Calhoun
stated all in favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor
Calhoun declared the motion carried.
Larry then showed the council an afghan the fire department had made for
the Chocolate Festival. He said the
price will probably be around $40.00.
Lloyd ordered one to put in the treasure chest. Discussion followed.
10. There being no
further business to come before the council at this time, Kris Cornutt made a motion to adjourn.
