CITY OF RAINBOW CITY-COUNCIL MEETING-MAY 4, 2006

 

The City Council of the City of Rainbow City, Alabama, met in a continuation meeting of the recessed meeting of April 24, 2006, and upon roll call by the City Clerk, Barbara T. Wester, the following members answered present: 

 

Terry John Calhoun, Mayor

 

Jeff Overstreet, absent

Bobby McCartney

Lloyd Matthews

Bryan Stone

Kris Cornutt, absent

 

The same constituting a quorum of the City Council, the following business was transacted.

 

1.  The meeting was called to order by Terry John Calhoun.

 

2.   Mayor Calhoun stated the first item on the agenda was the opening of bids for topsoil for the Vivian Lee Maddox Complex on Lumley Road.  No bids were received.  Mayor Calhoun recommended that Wiley McLain, Eddie Cline, Greg Payne, and Bobby McCartney get together and search out the best price for the topsoil.  Bryan Stone moved and Bobby McCartney seconded the motion to accept Mayor Calhoun’s recommendation.

Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.

 

3.  Mayor Calhoun stated that Beth Lee and Barbara Wester checked on prices for the printing of the Employee Manual.  Cofield Printing priced 200 books for $675.00.   Bobby McCartney moved and Lloyd Matthews seconded the motion to let Cofield’s print the manuals.  Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.

 

4.  Mayor Calhoun asked the Council to observe the Sales tax holiday, August 4, 5, and 6, 2006.  It applies to clothing costs up to $100.00 per item, computers, software and computer supplies costing up to $750.00 per item, school supplies and textbooks up to $50.00 per item and other books up to $30.00 each.   Lloyd Matthews moved and Bryan Stone seconded the motion to observe the sales tax holiday.   Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.

 

5.  Mayor Calhoun appointed Bryan Stone and Bobby McCartney to get with the Chamber of Commerce and get the price for four (4) new “Welcome to Rainbow City” signs to include, “Home of the Alabama Chocolate Festival.”    Bobby McCartney moved and Lloyd Matthews seconded the motion to appoint the committee.   Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.

 

There being no further business to come before the Council at this time, Lloyd Matthews made a motion to adjourn.
