MEETING (CONTINUATION) SEPTEMBER 5, 2006
The City Council of the City
of Rainbow City, Alabama, met in regular session at City Hall at 4:00 P.M., and
upon roll call by the Acting Clerk, Beth Lee,
the following members answered present:

The
same constituting a quorum of the City Council, the following business was
transacted.
- The meeting was called to order by Mayor Calhoun.
- Mayor Calhoun presented GovDeals.com internet bid
site for placing surplus equipment for the Police Dept. to sell. 7% from the total sale will go to
GovDeals.com. Captain Rick Hill
will be responsible for overseeing the transactions from start to
finish. Kris
Cornutt moved and Lloyd Matthews seconded the
motion. All ayes. Mayor Calhoun declared motion carried.
- Mayor Calhoun discussed Police Officer Andrew
Stanley payback to the City. No
action taken.
- Mayor Calhoun presented a request from Mr.
Barnard to get the blocks from the former Smedley
property for his personal use.
Recreation Director Eddie Cline
stated that his department can use these blocks at a later date and
requested that they remain on the property for future removal/use. No action taken.
- Jeff Overstreet moved and Bryan
Stone seconded a motion to bring from the table at the
last council meeting to hire a dispatcher. Jeff Overstreet moved and Lloyd
Matthews seconded the motion to hire Kim Wideman. Bryan Stone
recommended that in the future, the committee would like to interview all
applicants.
- Mayor Calhoun presented a request from Police
Chief Allan Ragan to post the position of Police Officer to replace
retiring Captain Jeff Harwood. Jeff
Overstreet moved and Lloyd Matthews seconded the motion to post the
position September 6, 2006 and close the posting September 20, 2006 at
2:00 P.M. Mayor Calhoun declared
the motion carried.
- Mayor Calhoun requested to reject the bids on the
lights at the new ball fields. Bobby McCartney moved and Jeff Overstreet
seconded the motion to reject the bids.
Bryan Stone made the
motion for new specs and bids be ready for
opening September 28, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. if specs can be ready by council
meeting on September 11, 2006. Bobby McCartney seconded the motion. Mayor Calhoun declared the motion
carried.
- Mayor Calhoun stated that Lloyd Matthews and Kris Cornutt met with the Utility Board
regarding sharing their utility trailer.
An agreement could not be reached.
Lloyd Matthews made the motion to purchase a trailer for the City
from Snead
Tractor Company, Inc. for the Street Dept. for
$6,250.00. Kris
Cornutt seconded the motion to purchase the
trailer. Mayor Calhoun declared the
motion carried.
- Mayor Calhoun recommended that the council and
department heads go into a budget work session.
There being no further
business to come before the council, Bryan Stone
made a motion to adjourn.
