CITY OF RAINBOW CITY-COUNCIL MEETING-SEPTEMBER 11, 2006

 

The City Council of the City of Rainbow City, Alabama, met in regular session at City Hall at 6:30 P.M., and upon roll call by the City Clerk, Barbara T. Wester, the following members answered present:

 

Terry John Calhoun, Mayor

 

Council members:

 

Jeff Overstreet

Bobby McCartney

Lloyd Matthews

Bryan Stone

Kris Cornutt

 

The same constituting a quorum of the City Council, the following business was transacted.

 

1.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Calhoun.

 

2.  Mayor Calhoun asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of  September 11, 2001 in New York City.

 

3.  Invocation was given by Bobby McCartney.

 

4.  Mayor Calhoun led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

 

5.   Mayor Calhoun presented the minutes of August 28, 2006 and September 5, 2006 for review and asked if there were any corrections, additions, or deletions.   There being none, Jeff Overstreet moved and Bobby McCartney seconded the motion to approve the minutes as presented.  Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.

 

6.  Mayor Calhoun announced that the specs are ready for the ball field lights at the Vivian Lee Maddox Sports Complex.  The bids will be opened September 28, 2006 at 2:00 P. M. 

 

7.  Mayor Calhoun stated that the planning commission recommended the acceptance of English Lane and English Pass in Westminister as city streets.  Lloyd Matthews moved and Bobby McCartney seconded the motion to accept these streets.   Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.

 

8.  Mayor Calhoun recommended increasing the city judge’s salary to $800.00 per month effective October 1, 2006.  Jeff Overstreet moved and Lloyd Matthews seconded the motion to increase the judge’s salary.  Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.

 

9.  Mayor Calhoun presented an ad request from Crappie Masters Team Tournament Trail Magazine.  No action taken.

 

10.  Mayor Calhoun asked that the records show that the monthly departmental reports were presented.

 

11.  Lloyd Matthews stated that Thursday, September 7, 2006, a hawk was injured on highway 77.  He commended Pat in dispatch and Tammy in animal control for their quick response in handling this situation.

 

12.  Kris Cornutt announced that September is National Library sign up month.

 

13.  Jeff Overstreet stated that he had received several calls commending the police officers for their assistance in helping with the Southside Band.  He also announced that the new skid unit arrived, and it was a very valuable piece of equipment.  He also thanked the police and fire department for all the hard work they do.

 

14.  Bobby McCartney stated that the community center served l,975 people this month.  Last year at this time they served l,404.   He thanked Ms. Sue and her staff for doing a great job.    Eddie Cline, Recreation Director stated 400 plus kids had signed up for soccer.

 

15.  Mayor Calhoun announced that the Lions Club is sponsoring a political rally September 21, 2006.  This is a fund raiser for the lions club and proceeds will go to purchase glasses for the less fortunate.  He also stated that the MPO Meeting will be in Rainbow City Thursday, September 14, 2006 at l0:30 A.M.    Mayor Calhoun also announced that the budget is completed and copies are being made, and it will be adopted at the next council meeting.

 

There being no further business to come before the council at this time, Bobby McCartney made a motion to adjourn.
