The City Council of
the City of
Mayor Calhoun turned
over the hiring of a police officer to Larry Keenum. Larry made a motion to hire John Bryant to
replace Wayne Garmon who recently retired. The rate of pay is $12.00 per hour. He is a certified officer. Lloyd Matthews seconded the motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in favor say
aye. All ayes. Mayor
Calhoun declared the motion carried.
Mayor Calhoun
presented the minutes of November 28, 2011 for review, and asked if there were
any corrections, additions, or deletions.
There being none, Lloyd Matthews made a motion to approve the minutes as
presented. Kris Cornutt seconded the
motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in
favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor
Calhoun declared the motion carried.
The Clerk opened bids
for the underground wiring for the Leon Glidewell
softball field. Two bids were

presented a request from Tina Brooks, Librarian, to attend the Children’s
Summer Reading Kickoff Conference on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at the

presented a request for a sign renewal at
Mayor Calhoun then
presented a request from the Southside Lady Panther Softball for a sign renewal
in the amount of $100.00. Discussion
followed. Kris Cornutt made a motion to table
this item. Lloyd Matthews seconded the
motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in
favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor
Calhoun declared the motion carried.
Mayor Calhoun
presented a request from the Lady Fusion U14 girls for a donation to go to
Mayor Calhoun
presented the following monthly departmental reports: Community Center, Building, Court, Library,
Fire and Police Department. He asked if
anyone has questions or comments. There
being none, he asked the records show the reports were presented.
Mayor Calhoun stated
the old telephone system, a Panasonic DBS 96 XE with processor phone system and
48 telephones needs to be surplused. Lloyd Matthews made a motion to surplus this
system and put on govdeals.com. Kris
Cornutt seconded the motion. Mayor
Calhoun stated all in favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.
Mayor Calhoun stated
the following is a list of volunteer firemen:
Andy J. Irvine, Patrick M. McLeod, Gary A. Murray, John-David Smith,
Jeremy Brian Steward and Timothy Patrick Hussleton. Mayor Calhoun stated this list is needed
for insurance purposes.
Lloyd Matthews stated
the next Council Meeting will be rescheduled until January 9, 2012, due to City
Hall being closed for the meeting scheduled for December 26, 2011. The meeting on January 9, 2012 will start at
5:00 p.m., instead of 6:30 p.m.
Lloyd made a motion
to this effect. Kris Cornutt seconded
the motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in
favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor
Calhoun declared the motion carried.
Lloyd then wished everyone a Merry
Christmas. Kris Cornutt and Larry Keenum
also wished everyone a Merry Christmas.
Larry then asked everyone to keep Bryan Stone in their prayers, due to
his daughter-in-law being sick. Larry
also asked everyone to keep David Elliott in their prayers. Bobby McCartney asked everyone to keep Boyd
and Peggy Smart in their prayers, because their daughter has been sick.
Bobby then stated he
would like to send out bids to contract out the grass mowing and upkeep of the
grounds for the City. Bids will close
January 19, 2012 at 4:00 p.m., and will be opened at this time. The Recreation Committee will meet and review
the bids at this time. Bobby made a
motion to this effect. Kris Cornutt
seconded the motion. Mayor Calhoun
stated all in favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.
Mayor Calhoun stated
he received notification that the grant the City applied for, for the Whorton Creek drainage Project, in the amount of
$1,000,000.00 will be released soon.
There being no
further business to come before the Council at this time, Kris Cornutt made a
motion to adjourn.
