The City Council of
the City of
Mayor Calhoun
presented the minutes of October 10, 2011 for review, and asked if there were
any corrections, additions, or deletions.
There being none, Anita Bedwell made a motion to approve the minutes as
presented. Kris Cornutt seconded the
motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in
favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor
Calhoun declared the motion carried.
Mayor Calhoun stated
he needed a motion to take off the table, the request from the Southside High
Tip off Club. Lloyd Matthews made a
motion to take this item off the table.
Bobby McCartney seconded the motion.
Discussion followed. Item died
for lack of a motion.

presented Ordinance No. 478, and stated this is a public hearing. This ordinance will rezone Dad’s Bar-B-Que, located at

Mayor Calhoun stated
this is a public hearing concerning the abatement of a nuisance at

the Clerk opened the bid for the cleaning contract for City Hall. Only one bid was received. Minyard Cleaning
Service bid $2,800.00 per month. Kris
made a motion to award the bid to Minyard Cleaning
for a period of one (1) year. Lloyd
Matthews seconded the motion. Mayor
Calhoun stated all in favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.
Mayor Calhoun
presented a recommendation from the Librarian to re-appoint Mary Couch to the
Library Board for a 4-year term, expiring October 29, 2015. Anita made a motion to appoint Mary. Kris seconded the motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in favor say
aye. All ayes. Mayor
Calhoun declared the motion carried.

Mayor Calhoun stated
the garbage will be picked up the day after the holiday, except for
Thanksgiving, and Thursday garbage will be picked up on Wednesday and Friday garbage
will be picked up on Monday.
Mayor Calhoun told
the Council that Officer Wayne Garmon will be
retiring, effective 12-1-11.
Discussion followed. Kris Cornutt
made a motion to accept his resignation.
Bobby McCartney seconded the motion.

Mayor Calhoun
presented a request from Wiley McLain, building Official to attend the
Association of North Alabama Code Officials training sessions on November 9 and
10, at
Mayor Calhoun
presented a three (3) year contract with A T & T. This contract will save $735.00 per
month. Discussion followed. Anita made a motion for the Mayor to sign the
contract. Lloyd seconded the
motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in
favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor
Calhoun declared the motion carried.
Mayor Calhoun told
the Council money was left over from the grant for the trailer park. The City has already paid their share of the
grant, but the money has to be used at the trailer park. The amount left is $81,091.50. $24,500.00 will be used for the grading of a
ditch, and $56,591.50 will be used for fence and gates. Anita Bedwell made a motion to this
effect. Lloyd Matthews seconded the
motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in
favor say aye. All ayes. Mayor
Calhoun declared the motion carried.
Lloyd Matthews stated
a citizen called him bragging on Brent Elrod.
He said Brent is doing an excellent job keeping the grass mowed. Kris Cornutt stated every time he passes the
VLM Sports Complex there are several teams playing. Lloyd said this was a dream of Frank
Ramsey. Mayor Calhoun thanked all the
employees for helping in City Hall during construction since the tornado.
Bobby McCartney
stated there has been a request for more lighting at the Boat Ramp. The cost will be $4,136.00. They will put in a pole and tie into the
existing light. Bobby made a motion to
this effect. Lloyd Matthews seconded the
motion. Mayor Calhoun stated all in favor
say aye. All ayes. Mayor
Calhoun declared the motion carried.
There being no
further business to come before the Council at this time, Kris Cornutt made a
motion to adjourn.
