CITY OF RAINBOW CITY-COUNCIL MEETING-NOVEMBER 2, 2005

 

The City Council of the City of Rainbow City, Alabama, met in a special called meeting at City Hall at 9:00 A. M, and upon roll call by the City Clerk, Barbara T. Wester, the following members answered present:

 

Terry John Calhoun, Mayor

 

Council members:

 

Jeff Overstreet

Bobby McCartney

Lloyd Matthews

Bryan Stone

Kris Cornutt

 

The same constituting a quorum of the City Council, the following business was transacted.

 

1.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Terry John Calhoun.

 

2.  Mayor Calhoun stated this meeting was called for two reasons.  One for Proclamation No. 05-03, recognizing November 11, 2005 as Veteran’s Day.   Kris Cornutt moved and Bryan Stone seconded the motion to adopt the proclamation.   Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.   He stated the next item of business is posting for a police officer, and referred this to Jeff Overstreet.   Jeff  turned the posting over to Allan Ragan, Chief of Police.   Allan spoke on the structure of the police department.   Allan said he was not happy with the efficiency of the police department.  He said he needed four people on each shift, two (2) supervisors and two (2) patrolmen.   This will help keep overtime to a minimum.   He stated that he and Rick Hill have been on call at night in case someone does not show up.  He also stated that Lt. Rick Hill will be leaving John Jones School as DARE Officer and will be in charge of first shift.   Officer Scott Holderfield will be replacing Lt. Hill at the school.    The school board will pay for Scott’s certification.   Thomas Hunt will be out for shoulder surgery, for approximately three (3) months.   He also announced that Charles Clifton will be leaving the Detective Division  November 27, 2005.   Jeff Overstreet moved and Bryan Stone seconded the motion to give Chief Ragan authority to post for two (2) police officer positions, with a base rate pay of $9.99 per hour, and close the posting, Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 4:00 P. M.    Mayor Calhoun declared the motion carried.

 

There being no further business to come before the council at this time, Bryan Stone made a motion to adjourn.
