News Release: 2017 Rainbow City’s Alabama Chocolate Festival Plans Announced

Officials from Rainbow City including Mayor Terry John Calhoun announced plans today for the 12th annual Alabama Chocolate Festival in Rainbow City, on Saturday, April 1st at Rainbow Plaza Shopping Center. Mayor Calhoun stated that “This is our twelfth year and we are expecting a large crowd for this event”. The festival will host 3 Chocolate Fountains sponsored by the Greater Gadsden Area Tourism Board. It will be open from 11:00 until gone. It will be located in the large white tent next to the stage. Everyone can come by and enjoy dipping their favorite treat.

Our Chocolate Taste-Off will be held in the large white tent next to the stage and baked items should be received by 10:30 a.m. with judging to begin at 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. There will be a $100 prize for first place, $50 for 2nd, and $30 for 3rd place in each category of Cakes, Pies, Candy, and Everything Else Chocolate! Also, a $150 prize will be given for the Best Overall Presentation. Everyone is invited to come by and get a sample of these baked items after the judging is finished.

The Carnival will be returning to the Plaza again this year. Wristbands will be sold Friday ONLY for $15.00 for unlimited rides or $1.25 per ticket. Wristbands will not be honored on Saturday. Saturday’s charges will be $25 for 22 tickets or $1.25 per ticket.

The festival is doing the Treasure Chest Hunt a little different this year. We will have a “Virtual Treasure Hunt”. Beginning March 20th one clue will be given on our sponsor radio stations WQSB, MIX102.9 and Power 107.5 each day for 2 weeks. The DJ will give the clue and the listener will have a certain time to call with a guess. The grand prize winner of $1,000.00 will be announced at 4:30 on the stage at the festival.

We are having more surprise drawings at this year’s festival. Our first 2 drawings will be at 12:15 for various prizes donated. At 2:45 we will have 2 more drawings. At 4:150 from the Pepsi Stage, we will have several drawings which may contain cash or prizes. You must be present to win. Each drink that is purchased from our Pepsi Wagons one ticket will be placed in the drawing or you can buy a ticket for $1.00. The Rainbow City Utility Board will be announcing the winner from their raffle during this time as well. We sure to be there to catch some valuable giveaways.
