RAINBOW CITY POLICE OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTION This is general duty police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Police officers perform work in accordance with departmental rules and regulations and receive assignments and instructions from police officers of higher rank. Work normally consists of routine patrol, preliminary investigations and traffic regulation duties in a designated area on an assigned shift. Work may involve an element of personal danger and employees must be able to act without direct supervision and exercise independent judgment in meeting emergencies. Employees may be assigned to work on special assignments which call upon specialized abilities and knowledge usually attained through experience as a uniformed officer. Work methods and results are checked by superior officers through personal inspections, review of reports and discussions.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED (ALL DUTIES LISTED MAY NOT BE FOUND IN EACH POSITION, NOR DOES THE LIST INCLUDE ALL TASKS WHICH MAY BE ASSIGNED TO POSITIONS IN THIS CLASS.)
Patrols a designated area of the city on foot, on a motorcycle, or in an automobile to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of crime, to direct traffic at school crossings and street intersections and to enforce traffic and parking regulations.
Answers calls for complaints involving fire, automobile accidents and robberies and other misdemeanors and felonies.
At the scene of crime administers first aid, conducts preliminary investigations, gathers evidence, obtains witnesses and makes arrests; testifies as witness in court.
Interviews persons with complaints and inquiries and attempts to make proper disposition or directs them to proper authorities.
Gives advice on laws and ordinances and general information to the public.
Attends regular training classes in police methods, first aid, target practice and related subjects.
Employees in this class may be assigned to the other divisions within the Department by the Police Chief for the performance of specialized duties.
Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of police methods, practices and procedures and ability to apply this knowledge to specific situations.
Some knowledge of the geography of the city and the location of important buildings, or ability to acquire this knowledge rapidly.
Ability to remember names, faces and details of incidents.
Ability to develop skill in the use of firearms.
Ability to deal courteously but firmly with the public.
Ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action, with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances.
Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports.
Physical strength and agility and freedom from serious physical defects as indicated by a physical examination.
Able to speak clearly and distinctly.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from a standard senior high school.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a driver’s license as issued by the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
PAY
$11.00 per hour, non-certified $12.00 per hour, APOST Certified
Grounds Keeper-Laborer in the Recreation Department.

RECREATION DEPARTMENT JOB DESCRIPTION - (GROUNDSKEEPER-LABORER)
WORK INCLUDES THE DAILY INSPECTION OF RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT FOR PROPER USE AND MAINTENANCE TO INCLUDE BUILDINGS, GYMNASIUM, GAMEROOM, AND OTHER AREAS OF RECREATION.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
MAINTAIN ALL BALLFIELDS AND OTHER BUILDINGS. LINE OFF BALLFIELDS AND PLANT GRASS. MOP AND WAX ALL FLOORS IN RECREATION BUILDINGS.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
ABILITY TO FOLLOW A PRESCRIBED ROUTINE IN PERFORMING WORK. SOME KNOWLEDGE OF THE MATERIALS, METHODS AND EQUIPMENT USED IN THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT. ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW SIMPLE ORAL AND WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS. ALL DUTIES LISTED MAY NOT BE FOUND IN EACH POSITION, NOR DOES THE LIST INCLUDE ALL TASKS WHICH MAY BE ASSIGNED TO POSITIONS IN THIS CLASS.
